With the establishment of the State of Assam, consequent upon the promulgation of the State of Assam Act, 1970, on January 25.1971, a separate High Court of Assam came into being. Sprang therefrom, a separate Bar Council of Assam under section 24 of the Advocates Act ,1961 . Prior to this , the enrollment of the advocates, implementation of certain provisions of the aforesaid Act and the rules framed thereunder and allied matters like welfare and conduct of the advocates remained with the Bar Council of India.
